Story 1: | This home of Mr. & Mrs. (Karen) K. Groppe was on the 1996 Sunday December 8 "Holiday Home Tour" TP Garden Club House Tour. Homes were open from 1-5 PM and tickets were $10. Proceeds were used to continue the beautification of our Village. Terrace Park Etchings, Refreshments and Ticket Sales were at 716 Park Avenue. |

Story 4: | The Smoots are related to the Stuntz family (625 Elm
Avenue). Clara Bader is the sister of Albert Bader who married
Elizabeth Ritchie, a granddaughter of Chauncey and Elizabeth Stuntz.
Al and Clara are from a long time Cincinnati family. Clara Smoot
(1902-1990) was an accountant with Wm. Mers & Co. in the Dixie Terminal
Building in downtown Cincinnati. She was an early pioneer in the world
of business women. One of her clients was Letha Green (716 Floral
Avenue), who was the last owner of the Green Line steamboat company, owners
of the Delta Queen. Bill Smoot (1909, Goshen VA-1994) worked for
Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co. He was handy with his hands and
specialized in repair of electric meters. He also was a serious
gardener at his Terrace Park home. The Smoots lived in Madisonville
and Kennedy Heights before moving to Terrace Park in 1970. They were
friends with the previous owners, Harry and Amy Weiss, and bought the house
from the estate. The Smoots had no children so their niece, Jane (nee
Bader) Hern, living in Milford, helped them getting to doctor's appointments
etc. later in life. (Information from Jane Hern's son, Tom Hern and his 1st cousin, Pat (nee Bader) Stavovy) |
