| The Vogeles removed the front porch, changed the living room window to a large bay one, added a brick raised bed across the house front, added a small entrance, installed brick steps and a serpentine brick walk. They also had built a screened porch which the Lanners converted to a paneled family room in 1967. The Vogeles also installed a large dining room bay facing the back yard. They built a garage which housed his office on one side. The Lanners added a powder room and walk in closet at the back of the house. | ||||

| Story 1: | According to Ruth Lanner: "Jack Vogele was the Terrace Park maverick at the time and was thoroughly disliked by many residents for his opposition to many of Council's proposals (the bomb shelter was one). A man of strong convictions, he dared Council to prevent him from constructing a garage on the property line in which he would raise double-breasted chickens. He threatened to sell the property to black people. The garage was built, the chicken project failed, problem solved. Prior to taking possession (of 621 Yale) Mr. V. gave us his file of letters he'd sent to Council so we could appreciate his mission. The letters were so vitriolic that I was upset and appalled and ceased reading. Although he was disliked by many residents, there were others behind the scenes who supported him and quietly donated cash to defray his expenses. ... Mr. V. was a force in the community." |
| Story 2: | Ruth Lanner was for many years a popular baby sitter. She also
was an excellent gardener and avid collector of antiques, especially quilts and
tools. Ruth says she and Arthur owned 621 Yale for about 40 years. Arthur W. Lanner was born 29 May 1918 and died 15 April 1993, aged 74 years. |
| Story 3: | "When this house was about to be torn down, the owner offered it to the Terrace Park Fire Department so they could practice operating in a 'real fire'."
